Stewardship

Stewardship Update

Like churches everywhere, St. John Prairie Hill functions completely on the gifts and stewardship of our members.  Through the giving our members, we are able to proclaim the Gospel and share the good news.  Through the giving of our members, we are able to share the faith with the next generation, teaching our children and youth about God’s Word.  Through the giving of our members, we are able to carry out Jesus’ command, and care for those in need, providing food for the hungry.  Through the giving of our members, we are able to provide opportunities for our members to grow in faith, learning more about Christ, about themselves, and about this world in which we live.

And, without the giving of our members, we are unable to do those things.

Last year, although we operated under budget, we finished the year with a significant deficit.  This year, even with one less person on staff, we trending toward the same result.

Did you know that to cover the budget approved by the congregation (without a Director of Music & Worship) requires an average of $21,000 a month.  This year (through March), we have received an average of $18,590 a month.

To put this in perspective, if each family in the congregation were to increase its giving by $15 dollars a month, we would end the year with a surplus.

As we continue through 2010, please consider what role God is calling you to play in the ministries of St. John.
